toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
i have a problem with my battery, its not charging. my original battery showed it was at 0% and charging when i plug the ac in. though it doesnt charge at all, and ofcourse when i take out the ac, the laptop turns off instantly.
the ac adaptor i bought is not the genuwine adapter but instead a universal AC adaptor. so i came with the solution that my battery cells were just dead so needed a new one. so i bought a new battery off ebay. The battery i bought is the same as the old one. the ebay guy was selling spare parts of the same model i have.. i put the new battery in and it showed 7% of battery power and i was able to run the laptop with just the battery. a few minutes later the battery power was at 4% and was obviously low so i pluged in my ac adapter to charge it, and it showed that it was charging. now the problem is, it has now been several hours since the adapter has been in. and the battery has not charged up at all? and is still at 4% any reason why this is? and is there anything i can do to fix this? to get it charging again? |

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
If you are referring to the battery you bought off eBay then I think you got a generic one (off brand). I have had the same experience. What you can do is have it replaced. Usually they have 90 days to 6months warranty on those.
As for your question on how to fix this.... get an original/genuine battery. It is less headache for sure.

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
no the battery is not generic. it is exactly the same as the battery i got with the laptop which is the original one.
though i just dont know why its not charging. i guess the best bet is for me to try out the battery on another laptop like mine (where to find one lol i have no idea) or just buy a new one from the shops. |

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
By the way if you are using a universal adapter, make sure you got the correct power ratings (Volts and Amps). Check the original on how it is rated (ex. 19.5 Volts and 3.5 Amps) and make sure the universal adapter can comply to this requirement.

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
yes it all meets requirements. with the universal adaptor it was charging the old battery, untill it died. then bought this new one and its not working like it should be.

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
Ok then may be what you can try at the moment is to clean the battery terminals. Both in the battery and the laptop side.
Btw... is the battery brand new? Is it still under warranty?

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
Ya you either have a problem with the adapter or the battery....however, it could even be your motherboard. Does the laptop work when it's plugged in with no battery and just the adapter?

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
no the battery is not brand new, as i won it on ebay from a guy who was selling spare parts, though that person said it was not used much untill his laptop stuffed up, thats why he was selling parts.
and yes the the laptop still runs with the adaptor even without the battery in. i dont know what can be wrong =____= |

Re: toshiba satellite pro L20 battery problems
If it was bought used, I would not be surprised if it is behaving that way. Yes, you may have been told by the previous owner about the battery being 'slightly' used... but there is no telling when these things die out.
Test a brand new non-generic battery or test your battery in another laptop. Either way, you will know for sure.
