Sony VAIO will not power on

I have a vaio laptop which seems to be entirely unresponsive right now. The power light is constantly on, as well as the battery light (plugging the battery in simply causes the battery light to blink, but otherwise has no effect). Pushing the power button has no effect, nor has trying the system reset (holding the button for 1 minute). There is no visible or audible activity at all, no matter what I do. Completely stumped on this. Would really appreciate any help.

Re: Sony VAIO will not power on

I've also now tried plugging in a different monitor, but the monitor does not even recognize any input.

Re: Sony VAIO will not power on

I understand you do not get a response when pressing the power ON button? May be you should try checking that first. Most often laptops have a power board (where the LEDs and the power ON switch is... just underneath the power ON button). Sometimes the plastic power ON button cannot reach the power ON switch that no matter how you push, the switch is not activated.

Re: Sony VAIO will not power on

Well I'd very much like to not open the case since I'm not perfectly sure what I'd be doing and I don't want to void anything, although the warrantee has already expired. Also, the fact that the power light is constantly on would lead me to believe that it's not simply the power ON button not physically reaching what it should.

Re: Sony VAIO will not power on

I am not exactly sure what you mean by the power light. Assuming this switches ON only when you press the power ON button then may be you have a point. BUT if this switches ON even without pressing the power ON button then may be it is just an indicator that power is received from the AC adapter.

I understand if you are hesitant in opening it up and do a visual check. I guess it would be best if you bring it to a repair shop instead. Good luck.
