Laptop booting failure
Hi, I have a Tiny green320 laptop. The problem is when I start it up the normal dos stuff comes up (checking bios, auto detecting pri master..ide hard disk etc.) then the amibios system configuration comes up followed by boot failure. last night I had MS word on when it the laptop started a configuration program which I cancelled
Is there a reset or a way to revert back to a past time through dos or any programs I can place on to get windows to boot up again. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Laptop booting failure
I am thinking that it has something to do with the configuration or update that popped up last night that I cancelled as it worked properly before that happened but it was also hot after I had turned it off.

Re: Laptop booting failure
hmmm, canceling or shutting down while its in the process of updating can corrupt the operating system and cause it to no longer boot.
As for repairing it and getting it to boot again, using dos or the windows recovery console is one way, but I strongly recommend not doing, as its very time consuming and difficult. One more easy way is if you have a windows disc that is the exact same version of windows (example : xp pro, you need a xp pro disc, xp home - xp home disc) you can do a repair install which will probably fix it. Or you'll just have to use the recovery discs that came with the computer, but that will delete everything you have put on it. |

Re: Laptop booting failure
hold on mate just had the laptop on while I have been writing this and now a message has come on that I had not seen before, It says
"Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file" Can you tell me how I can find and just install this file please. |

Re: Laptop booting failure
Can anyone tell me as I have the file "hal.dll" on disk and now want to place that onto the laptop from dos. is there any way that I can do this as every other solution comes to a dead end. I have the above file on both disc and mem. stick but need to get into dos and the laptop wont let me enter dos.
