Battery Life Toshiba m35x-s149

So for my work I inherited this 2002 Toshiba Satellite M35X-S149. An for most purposes its a great laptop for work. recently the battery goes dead very quickly even when I have the new charger hooked up to it. I already cost the boss for the new charger just want to make sure getting a new battery will solve the problem. Before I ask the boss for yet more money.

Re: Battery Life Toshiba m35x-s149

Honestly, a new battery for that will run over $225 normally from toshiba. The M35X's did have quite a few problems with the motherboards in them, and are quite well known having to have the motherboards replaced.

I might check and see if the motherboard has been replaced on it, a draining battery could just mean your using it alot, the power is set to full performance even when running on battery, one of the components is drawing alot of power (example: like the hard drive constantly running), or its just a old battery that can't hold a charge anymore.

Check the power options first, if it looks ok, then being as motherboards are known to go bad on these, might want to talk with the boss as it may be time to decide weather its worth putting that amount of money into a laptop thats 6 years old.

if the 2002 laptop never had its battery replaced, its time. Normally a laptop battery is only good for a couple of years.

Re: Battery Life Toshiba m35x-s149

I found a battery on line for 68 dollars plus shipping. My real concern is that I have my personal laptop at home and the battery never dies when I have the charger hooked up but for some reason the one I have work will not stay on even when the charger is plugged in. Just worried that I will put in a new battery and still not be able to continue my work cause somthing is wrong with charging system

normally if your computer runs off the charger alone, but does not run off the battery, then the battery needs to be replaced.

It is possible that there is something wrong thats not charging the battery, but its usually a rare problem, and like sobeit said, 6 year old battery, its deffinately time to replace it, usually they are replaced every 2-3 years.
