Re: reinstallation problems
if you had to reinstall using the cd instead of pressing F10 when booting (that accesses and boots to the recovery partition) then it sounds like you didn't put in all of the discs or theres a seperate application and driver disc that needs to be ran.
If you can't find it, then just try doing the recovery again without the cd's and just using the recovery partition. |

Re: reinstallation problems
interesting, well, doing a recovery both ways isn't working, I would download a hard drive diagnostic test, such as drive fitness test or your hard drive manufacturers diagnostic utility and run that, sounds like your hard drive might be bad.
It sounds like its either a bad drive or the recovery partition is corrupted. If the drive passes the tests, only thing I could suggest is to contact sony and have them send you recovery discs, or use your cd's again, but you would have to go download all the missing drivers from sony's webiste (if available) and you would be SOL for any progams not installed. Re: reinstallation problems
Make sure you are using good/working XP installation CDs. If you are just using copies or torrent download version then I suggest you get an original/genuine version.
Also make sure your laptop has booted from the CD drive. I know is this already stating the obvious but consider it a friendly reminder. Lastly make sure your laptop hardware is in pretty good shape. Make sure the RAM is free of errors. Run Memtest86+ just to be sure. During initial stages of installation, you may notice two devices works harder than any other. One is the RAM as you still have to format the HDD and the other is the CD drive. So make sure they are in top shape before doing the installation.
