HP DV9000: My monitor randomly screws up (pic inside)

Randomly.
When i'm talking on AIM, when i'm browsing the web, when i'm using the bathrom, BAM! The screen turns into some random pattern and I can't do anything but force my comp to shut down.
It wasn't as bad as it is now that I'm on the forum posting this, because as of now, it happens way more often >.<

Anyone know what the dealio is? thx.

Re: HP DV9000: My monitor randomly screws up (pic inside)

Looks like a dying LCD screen or video card. Try it out with an external monitor first and see if it does the same. If yes, try updating your video drivers first or try a different operating system (linux LiveCD or BARTPE/XP).

Running BartPE/XP or a linux liveCD would definitely help tell if it is LCD/hardware or a Windows related problem

Re: HP DV9000: My monitor randomly screws up (pic inside)

thx for the reply.

I tried the external LCD thing and it still happens. I also didn't have much time to update the driver before it happened, so I gotta work on moving fast enough. I didn't try a Live CD yet, but I can tell you that the problem did happen twice or so before windows even started up (like in the sceen that says windows didn't shut down correctly, or even in the bios setup)

Might have to extend the warranty and turn it in to HP >.< I'm still looking for a way around that tho, so please help if you can!

Thanks

I strongly recommend that you follow what was suggested first and we can work our way from there.

As it is right now, it seems that you have a dead motherboard or video card or a corrupt driver.
