ACER Laptop
I am also new to the tech support forum. I have a question about an ACER laptop that is about three years old. I notice that when I plug my charger into the laptop, the charger just wiggles around. I looked into the hole on the side of the laptop and there is no pin. I have never seen anything like that. Is that an expensive repair? Is it the power supply inside the laptop that needs to be replaced? Is it worth the repair on a three year old computer that cost $800?
Thanks, Jeff |

Re: ACER Laptop
It could be the DC jack connection (this is on the laptop side). These (or at least most of them) can be repaired as they are just soldered on the motherboard. The part alone costs peanuts in eBay you just have to be sure you are getting the correct part (ask the seller). Replacing the part is a bit tricky. This would involve opening the laptop up and soldering the new DC jack connection into place.

Re: ACER Laptop
I have had a very similiar problem...I have an acer 3680 notebook. Only a year old and my children have somehow managed to snap off the pin. I have tried to have it soldered back on but it didn't work. I am wondering if there is a way to wire the power directly into where the battery connects. I realize that I will loose the whole point of having a laptop (portability), but I just can't afford a new computer right now. Any ideas?
