Question [SOLVED] my laptop hard drive.

this one might sound a lil silly but i'm a lil better with desktops than laptops so here it goes:

my laptop doesn't turn on and i can't open it coz its weird like that so i took it to my local pc world (if you're not the from the uk that's just a pc superstore) and they wanted to charge me £220 ($450) to just look at it and obviously i turned it down coz i can get a decent computer for that price and that's exactly what i'm gonna do but i was curious about something - how can i move my info on my hard drive elsewhere? i have a 500gb hard drive so that was wonderful but it only works when the computer is on and obviously this computer doesn't turn on lol so i can't do much to it.

please help

Ehab Aboud

P.S sorry for the long story but i think it would have made more sense to say it all

Re: my laptop hard drive.

What kind of laptop is it?

Brand? Model number?

I ask for this info because with it I can hopefully assist in getting the hard drive out, and then you can attach the hard drive to an external hard drive enclosure and then transfer your data to another hard drive through USB.

Post back and I will follow up for you.

Re: my laptop hard drive.

In order to transfer your files from your laptop hard drive to your computer, you have to buy an 2.5" external hard drive enclosure (either IDE or SATA) depending on your hard drives' spec. You will then insert the laptop hard drive into this enclosure, and with the USB connector on the enclosure, you will connect it to the computer you want to transfer/copy your file to.

Another option is to connect the laptop directly to your computer, but you will need an adapter from 2.5"-to-3.5" IDE connector. This will allow you to connect the hard drive directly to the motherboard inside your case.

ehababoud, I'm glad that I was able to help you out with your issue. Feel free to email me or private message me if you need further assistance. In the meantime, mark this thread as solved, unless you feel that its not.

BTW, check out ebay for the enclosure. You can find it dirt cheap on ebay.
