[SOLVED] Toshiba power options
I have a toshiba satellite m200.
I was wandering if anyone has had problems with the toshiba power saver. For some reason the toshiba power saver software on winxp does not speed up the fan when it gets hot. The CPUs just get hotter. Even though in toshiba power saver I have the cooling performance at maximum. I kind of have to remind toshiba power saver to boost up the fan speed by going into power saver and fiddling with the controls, then bring it back to the maximum performance controls and pressing apply in order for the thing to work. If anyone can help it will be appreciated |

Re: Toshiba power options
Hi,
AFAIK fan speed by default is controlled by the motherboard depending on the temperatures read by the sensors. Monitor your temps and observe if fan starts, speeds up and stops as needed. Also observe how high your temp gets. If these continue to rise, first try cleaning the vents making sure your system is fully 'aspirated'. If you hear some noise from the fan as it spins, it may mean you need to replace it with a new one.

Re: Toshiba power options
Hi
Thanks for your reply. I downloaded core temp to monitor the core temps. I also ran the computer at %100 cpu usage using a test software. The CPUs went up to 79 degrees without the fan kicking in. The funny thing is that anytime as the CPU gets hot if I go into toshiba power saver and change the setting then return it to maximum peroformance the fan suddenly kicks in and the temps are fine. It is as if the power saver or the mainboard (which ever is reponsible for the problem) forgets to ramp up the fan speed. |

Re: Toshiba power options
Check with Toshiba website and see if there are related updates for your model like the BIOS or applicable programs such as Toshiba Power Saver.

Re: Toshiba power options
Thanks for your reply.
I think I have found out what the problem is. It has got to do with the fact that I have a dual boot system xp and vista. Advice for everyone: Unless you want to go through alot of trouble do not install a dual boot system on a toshiba laptop. |
