Pretty much nothing works due to "0xc0000005"
Hey there.
I have a laptop, with Windows XP. Its not mine so I'm not sure of the history, but it has one big problem I haven't been able to solve. Just from logging into an XP account, the following error comes up: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)." This comes up when going to properties, on any link in the control panel, among many other places I probably haven't even tried. I can't even get into Search or anything like that, with this error popping up then nothing happening. I've read it could be RAM, but its going to have to be a last resort of replacing it, I'm hoping its something else. I've done spyware/adware/virus checks, just the usual infections which I deleted and made no difference. Safe mode brings the exact same problems. Doing a system restore always fails. |

Re: Pretty much nothing works due to "0xc0000005"
If RAM is a suspect, then best if you run some diags to test the RAM modules. Use Memtest86+. Test the modules individually (remove one while you test the other).
If RAM checks out OK then try updating Windows or try repairing Windows. See steps on link below: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1664082/posts Also while you are at it, check your HDD as well. Use your HDD maker's diagnostic utility to test the drive. See HDD Diagnostic Tools link on my sig.
