Turns on, screen black, not dim

So, I've had this HP laptop for about a month. And this afternoon i was using it and was working fine, I went golfing, came back, and the screen is black, and moving the mouse or pressing a key did nothing. I restarted (power button) and the laptop itself turns on, fan running, power lights lit up, touch buttons lit up, but the moniter/screen is black, not dim. No picture what so ever. Any ideas?

If this is under warranty I suggest you bring it back to the store or call HP and have it fixed or repaired.

If you want to pursue, hook it up to an external monitor and see if you get anything on the screen when you power the laptop ON.

EDIT:
What is the exact model of the laptop?

I have bought this June a brand new HP DV9700 laptop. Now it doesn't bootup with a blank screen. I ve talked to a technical support guy on the phone. He asked me to reinsert memories and hard drives. But it didnt work out. Now I am sending it to the technical service to get repaired.
All the led lights are on I hear two tick tick when I try to power it on.
I donnow what to do. It has been more than 20 days and I cannot return it. My wife is a researcher and she needs this computer badly.
