start up problem on sony viso laptop
Hey,
So I've had this laptop for a few years it operates on WinXP. A variety of people use it like my friends, my brother and his friends. So yesterday I tried to boot it up like I normally do by pressing the power button and the first images that show up on the screen is the VISO logo in the middle of the screen and the processor logo in the bottom right corner of the screen. Which is normal, but those logos were only there maybe a second or two and then the screen just went black. I don't think there's anything wrong with the battery, because there's still power going to the computer because the screen is lit up, it's not dead. This repeats everytime you try and turn it on, it doesn't reach the boot menu. I originally thought that I might have a virus, but the computer hasn't been hooked up to the internet for a few weeks now and it was working perfectly last week. Thanks for all your help, Chris |

Re: start up problem on sony viso laptop
Hi Chris,
I had something similar happen to me (check this post [SOLVED] Sony Laptop - XP won't boot, keyboard seems non-existent) I closed the thread thinking my problem was related to software - but it seems something else is wrong with the HDD...anyway, you can look at that for some initial directions/maybe something sounds familiar etc. |

Re: start up problem on sony viso laptop
That thread really didn't help out much because I can't get to the BIOS. It boots up for like two seconds and then it's a totally black screen, but the power is still on because the screen is lit up, but it's not showing anything.
I tried all the F keys during that two second window, but nothing |

Re: start up problem on sony viso laptop
Well, you may try to check RAM. I found out that Viao seems to use the RAM for the LCD display. I think that is where TriggerFinger is pointing to(?)...anyway, if you have a couple of extra RAMs around (or compatible from someone else's system) you can give it a whirl - it could save you a lot of potential headache.

-- getting a blank screen can be caused by many things. among those are the RAM, the HDD, your Windows installation, your LCD and list goes on. -- since your case blacks out right after the logo, i am thinking it could be the RAM or your hard drive. best if you can test each of them.
