Cry My laptop shuts off randomly.

Hi, this is my first post. I have been having a problem w/ my Acer laptop. It will shut off randomly if i play a game or if i scan my laptop or when i'm converting music videos for my mp3 player. I think my laptop might be low on memory, that's what my friend told me anyway. How can i fix this? He told me that i need to buy a memory stick. I don't kno wat to do.

Re: My laptop shuts off randomly.

Post your laptop details including current specifications (RAM, CPU, etc.).

Also it could be possible that yours is overheating. Install SPeedFan or NHC to get your temps. Observe the temp at the point you get the shutdown... or at least near it.

Re: My laptop shuts off randomly.

If your warrenty is still good take it back to the store you bought it from cause mine did that and its a Toshiba but we brought it back to the store and they fixed it and it doesnt do that anymore, so you might want to do that.

Re: My laptop shuts off randomly.

Start with cleaning the vents/heatsink. Make sure that when in use, nothing blocks the vents. As previously advised, observe the temps.

Re: My laptop shuts off randomly.

Get a can of compressed air. Blow a good amount thru the vents. Continue until most of the dust/if not all have been blown out.

Install SpeedFan or NHC to see your temps.

Also do test your RAM with Memtest86+. You can get this by d/loading the ISO file from the link on my sig. Extract the file to your Desktop. You will need a CD burning tool to do this like Nero or ImgBurn. If using ImgBurn, just right click on the ISO file and select Burn with ImgBurn... make sure a blank CD is in your CD drive.

About your friends advise, if your laptop is low on memory, it would freeze and hang or probably BSOD but not (IMHO) shutdown randomly.

Re: My laptop shuts off randomly.

It may have SPYWARE or VIRUS aswell, my Aspire 3000 was doing the same thing, tried Spyware removers and Anti Virus programs, but nothing worked,,,,,So I set it back to factory defaults like new again, solved the problem,,,you may want to back up any thing you think is useful,,,reboot and on booting ALT + F10 continuously,,,may work :)
