Battery not Charging(Only works on AC)

Laptops battery life would not last more than 5min. After replacing the battery - plugging in the new one to charge.
NExt day I tried to turn the laptop on without the AC in.

The laptop registered that there was a battery connected for about 5 min, then after that said "no battery present"

It runs fine of AC - but I suspect maybe the new battery is not being charged.

I was told to just buy a new motherboard? Is that the only solution>

How old is the battery? Have you tried using that battery on any other / similar laptop? You mentioned something about 'plugging in the new one', is it a brand new battery? Is it genuine/original and not off-brand/generic?

old battery - 2years old
new battery ... well brand new... and yes original.
havent tried it on any other devices - none available

have not tried it on another laptop (dont have another device to test it on, to mention, because its new - it probably holds zero charge.. right?)

was considering an external battery as a workaround - but its not ideal...

If your battery is brand new, it could have zero charge on it initially but it should charge overnight. When you plug the new one in, what is the color of the battery indicator LED (orange/amber, green)?

Also is your AC adapter still giving out the correct voltage (compare with the one on the label of adapter)?

led is the strange part...

when i start the laptop its orange... (this would be the time it registers a batter with 0% charge) after a few minutes the charge is still 0%
BUT - then all of a sudden - it doesnt register the battery anymore and the LED is blue.

FYI : its a Packard Bell Easynote a8
