Yesterday I tried reformatting my Toshiba laptop with the cd that came along with it. I was almost 70% finished, but I accidently opened the cd drive and the cd came out creating an error. Now, when i try to start my computer to re-reformat, windows xp won't even start. I get a black screen with a message that says a file is missing or corrupt and that I need to install it again. I can't go beyond that screen. Will I be able to fix it myself?

Re: reformatting porblem
When you say "windows xp won't even start", are you talking about normally booting up?
If so, then have you tried booting up using your windows xp cd and using the cd drive as a boot disc? |

Re: reformatting porblem
You could be booting from the HDD. Try booting from the CD drive. Make sure your CD drive comes before the HDD in the boot order list in BIOS settings.

Re: reformatting porblem
Go into Bios (hit the Esc button several times as soon as it's powering up)
If Esc doesn't work, then hit the delete button. http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/technical/support3.htm "BOOT FROM CD The only reason we've included any details of BIOS settings on this site is that many customers will need to access the BIOS to alter their boot order settings. Most recent machines will boot from CD, which saves having to manually install CD drivers. Often this feature is turned off. If you need to boot from your CD access the BIOS as described above and look for Boot Priority or Startup options. Set the machine to boot from CD, then Hard Drive." |
