Sony Vaio vgn-n365e/b dvd rom

I recently received a sony vaio laptop. And when i did, i couldn't get the dvd to read any disc, in fact when you click on computer, it won't recognized the optical drive. Hitting properties and device, management did show the drive with an error. Having windows search for errors doesn't lead to any help, and it says that the drivers are up to date.

When i received the laptop I deleted some of the programs on the laptop that came with the laptop and were pointless, i figured i may of deleted something important. I then proceed to restore the laptop to original settings. Reinstalling windows ect. This time not deleting the Vaio programs.

It seemed to work, i was able to install microsoft office. But then a day later, the drive isn't reading discs anymore. Giving me the same problems as I had earlier.

My question is, has there been anyone out there that has had the same problem and has fixed it? or is there any fixes anyone can think of?

I am running windows vista, home premium sp1.

Re: Sony Vaio vgn-n365e/b dvd rom

try deleting upper/lower filters. also try booting from CD/DVD drive. you may need to change boot order in BIOS to be able to do this. if both approaches are unsuccessful consider getting a new or replacement CD/DVD drive.
