Problem with Monitor Connection

I have recently bought a new laptop, a Samsung R60+ Aura T5450.... and am currently using an LG22SL4R (i think) for a TV and now i have bought a cable to link the monitor up to the laptop, VGA of course.

But the one i bought, does not recognise the TV's native resolution of 1680 x 1050... and for that matter, it doesnt even recognise the tv. Just say generic monitor.

I thought it may be a problem with the graphics card, but i tried another VGA cable, from the desktop upstairs and it had no problem finding and recognising the native resolution and the TV. told me it was the 22SL4R.

I have no idea why this would happen but is there a way to solve it? so i can use my actual lead. or is the lead just not very good?

any advice or need for more information really appreciated!
