Flickering Screen

I have a Dell Latitude D600. The screen has suddenly started flickering. Do I need a new battery? If I disconnect the battery the flickering stops but the screen is very dark, as is a light has gone out. So I am not sure whether there is a bulb failing, or whether there is a problem with my battery. How do I have the battery tested?

Re: Flickering Screen

Does it turn brighter and flicker when you plug in the A/C power?

Re: Flickering Screen

Hi JenniferM,

Your laptop has a battery and AC adapter, right? When you use the laptop, you leave the battery attached and AC adapter plugged in, is this correct?
With this scenario, is your screen bright? Any other symptoms?

Now how about removing the battery. That leaves you with your AC adapter only. Your source of power is coming from the wall outlet via the AC adapter. With this scenario is your screen bright? Any other symptoms?

Now remove the AC adapter (unplug from laptop and wall outlet). Put your battery back in the laptop and power ON the laptop. With this scenario when you are completely running on battery alone, is your screen bright? Any other symptoms you notice?

I hope that helps clarify...

Re: Flickering Screen

Thanks for the clarity.

When the battery and the AC adapter are connected is when the screen flickers.

When I disconnect the battery, the screen dulls but the flickering stops.

When I unplug the AC adapter and run off battery alone the screen stays bright, and I haven't noticed any flickering, but Ive only done this once.
