external mouse freezes

My HP works fine. I just have geek squad take care of all the virus but the original problem was always with external mouse. Touch pad is great but external mouse will freeze after 2 or 3minutes.
Geek Squad couldn't fix it but was wondering this forum can help me.
I will appreciate all your help.
Thank you

Re: external mouse freezes

Hi,
2 or 3 minutes? is this from the time you have booted into Windows? Btw, how is your mouse connected (wireless or USB)?

Re: external mouse freezes

provide details about the laptop (make/model, OS, bios level, SP,....)?

have you tried using the mouse on a similar laptop (same make and model)? also have you tried using a different operating system in your laptop (i.e. linux)? if not, try it with a live CD so you won't have to install linux in your hard drive. try knoppix or ubuntu or pclinuxos if one of these works with your laptop.

Re: external mouse freezes

Thank you so much for your reply.

The laptop is HP pavillion dv 4000. I just have everything redone. It is in factory style right. I have downloaded anything either than mozilla firefox.
The laptop is fast except for the mouse. I am using the same mouse in compaq laptop right now which works just fine.
