Question not detecting hard drive

I left my computer running when I left for work and when I came back home I noticed I had gotten a blue screen so I shut down my computer. When I try starting my computer I get a message that says "no bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics." I don't understand what went wrong. I have a dell latitude d620 with an intel core 2 duo. I run windows xp professional. Thanks for any help.

Re: not detecting hard drive

Have you tried rebooting and pressing F5. If you can/do , it will tell you if the hard drive is bad etc.

Re: not detecting hard drive

Yes I tried that test and it came up failed for one of them and starting beeping a bunch of times. So does that just mean my hard drive is completely dead or is there a way of saving it?

Re: not detecting hard drive

Hey mate,
go into BIOS and check if HDD is visible...
If it is not, take it out and plug it to friends PC or your desktop PC...
If other PC see your laptop HDD, then something is wrong with laptop like cable that connects Motherboard and HDD...
Hope this will help you...
