Dell Latitude D600 AC Power Problems

My wife and I both are using Dell D600's. Last weekend, suddenly we started both getting a message at startup that the power adapter could not be identified and the computer would boot up at reduced speed.

Her motherboard failed at the same time. I replaced her motherboard with another one that I had, but the AC problem was still there. I purchased a new AC adapter today, and we still get the same message on both units.

Is there something that needs to be reset somewhere? I need some help.

Hi,

What is the part number of your adapters?

EDIT:
Just some additional questions. Did you update the BIOS? At what specific point does the message appears?

Re: Dell Latitude D600 AC Power Problems

I have not updated the bios. This occurs when the laptops are booted up, right after the "Dell" startup screen. It asks for F! to resume or F2 to go to setup.

Re: Dell Latitude D600 AC Power Problems

I have seen a lot similar to this... not only for a D600.. just Google 'dell adapter not recognized' unfortunately DELL has no definitive answer. Does your battery continue to charge even with the message?

The solution range from adapter replacement to motherboard replacement. I also have read that you can suppress (disable the option) the message in the BIOS. I would definitely start with this (disabling the message option).

I know you can bypass this with an F1 just make sure your battery continues to charge.

Re: Dell Latitude D600 AC Power Problems

The batteries in both laptops do not charge with either the original or new chargers after the "F1" startup option.
