I'm having a problem with my Toshiba M35x-S311. It started several days ago when I would turn it on with the power cord plugged in. It would boot up and then the screen would go blank and it "seemed" quiet. I'm realizing now that should have been telling me something. I'd reboot it and it would be fine except that I would get a message telling me to switch to AC power because my battery was low. Today I go to turn it on and the power light (blue round button) stays on, but I noticed the drive light flashes quickly and never comes on again. The blue light stays on, but again the system is quiet (as if not on) and the screen is blank. I called Toshiba and they thought it was the screen. I think it's not getting power (but the blue light is on - is that power?) to the drive?? Any ideas? THANKS!

Re: Toshiba M35x-S311 problem
the m35x, a75, and a135's are well known for motherboards going out on them. I see them all the time to repair with the same problem you are describing. power light is on but nothing happens.
but it could be other things than the motherboard. memory, ac adapter, battery, LCD inverter, or LCD itself. first thing I would do is remove the battery and leave the unit unplugged from the ac adapter, hold down the power button for 30 seconds. then plug the ac adapter in and turn it on and see if that makes a difference. to test for LCD, plug an external monitor into it before powering it on. then turn it on and see if you get any video on the external. you may have to press down Fn + F5. could also try another ac adapter, universal will work fine. If you do not use a universal adapter, make sure the one you use is the same voltage and amps as your computer requires. I belive the m35x's use a 15v 5amp ac adapter, but you can check what it says on the bottom of the unit. then you could also try swapping out the memory for a stick that you know works and make sure you try it in both slots (one slot could be bad causing the no video). |
