My laptop was subject to a shock, due to dropping a heavy object on my desk close to it. Although the laptop was not directly hit, it now no longer works. Phillips tech support is virtully non-existant. Does anyone know what may have gone wrong or where to get help.
Thanks for looking would be most grateful for any help Kevin |

Re: Phillips Laptop Freevents X55
Hi Kevin,
When you say 'it now no longer works', what exactly do you mean (cannot boot, beeping sounds, etc.)? Be a little more specific on what the problem is. Thanks.

Re: Phillips Laptop Freevents X55
do you have a laptop battery (with some charge)? try that without the AC adapter. that will help tell if it is a DC jack connector problem.
if battery is already present, remove the battery and run on AC only. if your battery is not charged, try another good/working battery from a similar laptop (borrow one from a friend or colleague). last thing is open the laptop up, remove everything and put them back one by one, also reseat the cables making sure they are connected securely, powering up each time you connect a device or component. obviously it will not boot normally, the objective here is to see if power would go in and (to the very least) light up some LEDs or show any sign of life.

Re: Phillips Laptop Freevents X55
I have also tried powering up with hard drive and memory remove, still no sign of life.
I'm not able to remove disc drive, when I try the drive cover simply comes away. Can't figure out how to remove the keyboard - was going to try removeing CMOS battery. Thanks, Kevin |

Re: Phillips Laptop Freevents X55
Hi Kevin,
I just did a quick Google search to look for a service manual but unfortunately I cannot find one for your model. I do not encourage that you open it up with out a guide because we may do more harm than good (even if it is a dead laptop ).Just based on what we have now it looks like a motherboard problem and yes, it could be a dead laptop. It would be good if you can access the motherboard so you can see if there are any burnt components. Anyhow I suggest you also get a second opinion from a repair shop.
