Freezes on boot
I have an acer aspire 3000 running xp.
Recently my laptop would freeze up and on reboot it would do the disk check and that would be that. A couple days ago it froze and upon disk check it wouldn't let me skip it (i was in a hurry) and then it would just hang at 0% for over 2 or 3 minutes. So I'd try and reboot only to run into the same problem. Yesterday i tried I again. I woke up and turned the laptop on. Again, disk check hangs at zero. I forgot about it and went to work on my desktop. When I return maybe half an hour later i seen it was on maybe 5% or so. I let the laptop complete the disk check, taking a total of around 6 hours. After that I try to load up windows and I while entering my password the machine would slow up then freeze completely. This happened a couple times I tried. Eventually I tried to load into safe mode and shockingly enough, it works fine in safe mode. I was thinking on reinstalling windows or getting a new hard drive or maybe some memory. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Freezes on boot
hi,
if you have the XP install CD, run CHKDSK /R in Recovery Console. if symptoms persist do a non destructive repair http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1664082/posts

Re: Freezes on boot
Thanks for the fast reply. My only question here is this: I have the recovery disk for the laptop which I can only assume would reinstall xp. These disk were burned by me on request from my laptop telling me I need to back the system up. All I had to do is put some cds in and when it finished burning I put them up.
Are these disk the same as an XP cd, or am I out of luck? |

Re: Freezes on boot
if you want to reinstall Windows then you can use your recovery CD (the one that you have now). but i do not think it could give you the recovery console like the XP install CD.
