Problems with Dell and HP Laptops
Hi, I have a couple of questions and if anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful.
I have a Packard Bell Easynote Argo C2 laptop from a friend which to all intents and purposes is dead in the water - no lights, noise or anything. I've checked the power adaptor (by replacing it with a good one and using it in another machine) and no probs. there. I've tried removing the battery and holding the switch as I read somewhere else on this forum and zilch, and I've checked the RAM and removed the modem - nothing. Should I give up at this point and call it quits or is there anything else I can try? Also, I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 given to me as a present - it works fine, 'cept that when you turn it on it gives an error message about the power adaptor not being strong enough and saying that it will run only in "optimized mode" whatever that is. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. Dave

Re: Problems with Dell and HP Laptops
hi Dave,
as for Packard Bell, i think it is.. yes, as you said dead in the water. although having it checked by a repair shop is always a good option. as for the Dell Inspiron... are you using a genuine adapter that came with the laptop? if not, i suggest you get the genuine/original Dell adapter. it may be a little bit costly.

Re: Problems with Dell and HP Laptops
Hi, I kind of suspected that the PB was dead - I'll keep an eye out for a broken one on eBay and see if I can't get another motherboard/processor for it - it does look pretty okay other than it not turning on and if I can get something cheap to fix it up I don't mind the expenditure.
As for the Inspiron - I am using an original Dell adaptor, and I did try another one from another machine - both rated correctly. I've seen this message reported before, but I just cannot remember exactly where, quite a long time ago actually - when it boots, it says that it has a 70W adaptor, instead of a 90W adaptor and it's putting the machine into battery optimised mode. That info might make the problem clearer. Regards Dave

Re: Problems with Dell and HP Laptops
it could be... although i think a 65W will do as per this page
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/c...chassisid=8408 but i think 90w should work nicely.
