Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
Does anybody have any idea of what model 40GB hard drive originally shipped with a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100? The complete part number of the laptop is: PS610U-JN5E87.
I have been given one of these laptops with no hard drive in it. I have tried installing three different newer and larger hard drives in it, but each time I get an error that indicates that I need to update the BIOS to use the drive (according to information from the Toshiba website). I am not comfortable updating the BIOS and would rather just put a hard drive in it that will just work. I only want to install the same 40GB drive that came with the machine. I'm sure it's a Toshiba hard drive, but if anybody could send me the actual model of the drive I would be eternally grateful!!! |

try this page: http://www.epinions.com/pr-Toshiba_S...ay_~full_specs
the page says it uses IDE, so you can get a 40 or 60GB IDE drive for laptops from eBay or Newegg.

Re: Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
Thanks for the info, but it doesn't contain the hard drive part number. I've tried installing one 40GB and two 60GB drives in the machine, but I get the error to update the BIOS.
I'm not comfortable updating BIOS on a good day, but this machine has a fluky AC adapter and a battery with next to no life. I'm just not going to take the risk of something going wrong with the power to it in the middle of updating the BIOS. (And, yes, in my life something ALWAYS goes wrong!) I'm sure that the original, older model hard drive that came with the machine will work. If you happen across that part number, please send it my way! |

Re: Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
The part number given in those specs is for a removable Slim Select Bay drive that replaces the DVD/CD-ROM. It is not for the internal hard drive.
I'm still looking for the part number for the original, internal 40GB hard drive. |

Re: Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
i am not sure what part of the document did you get that. try reading ACCESSORIES. if you want you can Google the part numbers for the HDD that you find in the document or best if you ask Toshiba support or Toshiba customer service and check if the part numbers I gave you are for the HDD that you need.

Re: Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
I did Google the information from the ACCESSORIES portion of the spec: PA3133U-1H40, 40GB Hard Disk Drive (5400 rpm). The results indicated that this is a removable Slim Select Bay hard drive which fits in the DVD/CD-ROM bay.
I need the model information for the internal 40GB hard drive. |

Re: Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
it should be the same because both are 2.5" IDE hard drive.

Re: Hard Drive Shipped with Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100
I just got off the phone with Toshiba. The drive itself is part number for the 40GB drive is MK4026GAX HDD2193.
The PA3133U-1H40 part number given on the spec sheet is the hard drive with the SelectBay caddy to fit into the DVD/CD-ROM drive. So at last this question is answered. Thank you, everyone, for your help!!! |
