Toshiba wont power up
My Toshiba satellite model 1955s805 with xp will not power up. It has worked great for a long time and it just quit working. When I press the power button with the power cord plugged in the power cord light and the battery light comes on but it does nothing. When I take my finger off of the power button it just goes dead until I unplug and plug the power cord back up. When I try it without the power cord plugged in all of the lights on the front come on except for the power cord light. The battery light comes on but it doesnt turn green, it just stays red. I have tried everything I can think of with no luck. I have some important stuff on this computer that I havn't had a chance to back up yet. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Toshiba wont power up
hi,
check the button board (where the actual switch is located). reseat the cables that connects it to the motherboard. it would be good if you can get hold of a service manual. try irisvista.com. also check the AC adapter output. output voltage should equal the one on the label. i hope your adapter is the one that came with the laptop.

Re: Toshiba wont power up
TriggerFinger
I am using a universal power cord. I have used it for about a year and it has worked fine. My model # is listed in the box for the power cord. Is it common to have problems like this when you are not using the original power cord? Thanks for the help. I wil try your suggestions and let you know if it works. |

Re: Toshiba wont power up
about the adapter, just make sure you get the correct output. yes, i have heard of many stories that are not so good when it comes to generic adapters. but hey, if they work... GREAT!
