HP 4900ze
Ive got a HP laptop that wont come on. The issue started when I plugged a USB travel mouse into one of the USB ports with the laptop on. It made a funny noise and got hung up and shut down. Now when I press the power button it doesn't do anything but the following:
-All the lights on the keyboard light up and stay on (all blue) -All the lights across the front light up and stay on (blue and orange) -The cd drive makes a "chikka..chikka..chikka" noise like its trying to load an imaginary disc -And the screen never comes on I have absolutely no idea what to do. ![]() I have tried the reset button but it didn't change anything. Is my laptop dead forever? Thanks in advance for anyone will to help

Re: HP 4900ze
Turn off your laptop and attach external monitor (VGA) again. boot the laptop and observe if you get any screen. if not, try pressing Fn + F4 keys.

Re: HP 4900ze
Ok, sorry it took me so long to get back.
I just tried the last suggestions with no luck. The external monitor has a indicator light that changes colors .. green for working and orange for no signal. It stayed orange while the laptop was connected to it and booting up, etc. |

Re: HP 4900ze
Did you try the toggle keys (Fn + F4)?
Also remove the laptop battery and AC adapter then press power ON button for 30secs at least. Put back the battery and plug the AC adapter then power ON as normal. See you get screen on either laptop LCD or external monitor. If you still do not get any screen in either of them, it could be your video chip or motherboard. It would be best if you bring it to a repair shop for a more deeper analysis and testing.

Re: HP 4900ze
Try another monitor just to be sure it is not cause by any incompatibility with the external monitor you are currently using. Fn + F4 key combination is best used after you log in to Windows.
Other laptops like my old Thinkpad has settings in BIOS that can be set if I want to use CRT, LCD or BOTH. Mine is set to LCD by default. Check your BIOS settings if there is a similar setting to this. Frankly, it does look like a motherboard/video chip failure. When our tests fail, best if you can have it looked at by a repair shop.
