Black screen on acer laptop

Hi
I'm new to this forum and hope to be able to get some help from you guys.

I own a acer aspire 5583WXMi and a few days ago, when i boot up my computer, nothing came on the screen just as if it was powered off. The weird thing however is the activity light was blinking and in a while I could hear the start up music, but the screen was pitch black. I attempted to connect the laptop to another LCD monitor but the message on the LCD was check video cable.

is this a LCD problem or motherboard problem?

Hi,

Welcome to TSF!

Use a VGA external monitor instead and observe if it behaves the same.

Make sure you haven't hit the FN combination key to switch to TV/monitor which, in some models, turns of the LCD screen.

i tried connecting my laptop to a VGA monitor and the message on the monitor was no connection.
Oh and i'm certain i hit the correct FN combi key.

did you connect the monitor to the laptop before you power ON the laptop and the monitor?

i still get the same no connection message when i connected the monitor before powering on the laptop and monitor.

that is not good.

usually this could mean a video chip/card fault which could need a video chip or motherboard replacement.

given that is a very expensive replacement, i suggest you get a second opinion from a repair shop to be very sure.
