Cant boot up thinkpad - please help

My thinkpad was put in a cupboard and since then i have not been able to get it booted up. It starts to boot up (the IBM front screen comes up) but the "Fan Error" appears in the top left hand corner and the computer goes off again. An orange light rather than a green light is showing on the battery symbol when i put in the power cord.

Any ideas how to fix here? I am pretty worried about tjis as i have years of photos stored on the computer with only few backed up

Thank you in advance for any guidance

Re: Cant boot up thinkpad - please help

if it says fan error, may be you have a dead fan or fan is not connected. consider replacing your fan. the thinkpad being not able to continue booting without the fan is just protection from burning itself or any property.

Re: Cant boot up thinkpad - please help

Thank you so much for your response. Much appreciated. Just to confirm, does this mean my data is likely to be safe once the fan is fixed?
