Laptop won't shutdown

I purchased a dell inspiron m1525 and have had it for a week. When I go to shutdown the computer it will close the windows sidebar but nothing else happens. I can't open any progrmass and crtl alt del works but the task mamager does not open.

If I close the computer and wait a few minutes and reopen the computer it will shutdown. I have no idea why this is happening.

System specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
3Gb RAM
250GB HD
Intel next gen N wireless
onboard audio and video.

Any help woul dbe appreciated.

Re: Laptop won't shutdown

Hi dontnopc!

Is it happening each time? It seems there might be a corrupted software or application problem on the computer. Try to click Start, click the Run.. (if you're using the Vista, just type in the Start Search... bar)

Type in msconfig

Choose the diagnostic startup on the boot menu, and try to reboot the computer. See if the shutdown works fine now. Let us know how it goes then
