newly installed XP insn't connecting wirelesly
I have a Compaq Presario 2100 and I've recently installed a new hard drive. I've reinstalled the windows XP cd, all the system drivers, and made all the XP updates. I can connect to the internet fine with a direct Ethernet connection on my home network, but wireless isn't connecting properly. I've manually added my home network into my preferred networks, but each time I do this the network key is reverting to some 8 character key when I've entered the proper 16 character key. When I re-enter the proper character key in the pop-up window (that appears after hitting connect from the available wireless networks window) the system tries to connect but eventually stops and no error/warning message appears. I'm wondering if my wireless card has died, but it was working properly before my hard-drive crashed. There is another laptop in the house working properly with the wireless network. I haven't installed any anti-virus or internet security besides what windows comes packaged with. I'm waiting for my wireless to perform before completing this.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: newly installed XP insn't connecting wirelesly
tried downloading and isntall an updated driver from hp's website?
abut fyi, after typing in the key and closing the window, it is normal for windows to only display 8 characters in the key field if you look at it again. but I would also make sure its set to the right encryption that your router is using, such as WPA, WEP, WPA-2. If its WEP try the different settings as in Open, Sharded. |
