CD/DVD ROM Drive not working

Hello there,

I recently just got a brand new F750US Notebook PC with Vista. The CD/DVD was working just fine for the first three weeks. Probably used it a total of 20 times playing DVD's and RW-DVD's. Then it stoped recognizing any disk that would go in. Then the green light went off and now the Disk drive will not even open. I can not do it manualy or though the computer. The computer gives me contradictory messages too. It says it won't open because "the driver is in use" but then another message pops up afterwards saying "please insert a disk".

Is this a common problem in manufacturing of this computer or perhaps a problem with Vista. I tried uninstalling the drive and reinstalling but nothing. The computer says there is nothing wrong with the driver...but there is. I need to show films for my work is there any way around this problem?

thank you,

Denise

Re: CD/DVD ROM Drive not working

hi Denise,

most CD/DVD drives open (when CD/DVD eject button is pressed) as soon as you power ON the laptop (logo splash appears). at that point there is no involvement of Windows drivers yet. try this first and see if it opens.

also, pop in a bootable CD or DVD media (ex. XP installation CD or a linux live CD) into the CD/DVD drive and try to boot from it. you may need to change boot order in BIOS settings to make this possible. if it can boot from the CD/DVD drive then that means your drive can read the media and the problem you described may be Vista related.

try deleting the upper/lower filters http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 (ignore 'applies to...' )
