laptop lid won't stay open -TOSHIBA Satellite Pro 4200 Series

I have Toshiba Sattellite Pro (4200 series) laptop and the "lid" just started not staying up. It looks like it is a spring issue.

Does anyone have experience with fixing this problem? I was hoping to be able to handle the repair myself before the pressure from the spring snaps any of the formed plastic hinge. (That would be a major repair...)

first of all do get a service manual for your laptop model. use that as a guide for removal and replacement of the hinge. usually the hinge is below the covers. you can buy the hinge individually or as a pair.

the task is not that hard as long as you have the service manual to guide you thru the process.
