My Laptop Wont Switch On

After leaving my laptop on to let the battery run out and after plugging it back in it refuses to switch on. I get a little bit of activity when i press the power button but then it just goes right off again, any advice would be appreciated cheers. I know it's not the battery as I've tried it without the battery in the laptop just with the power cable but I seem to get the same reaction. I'm just hoping that it's a bit knackered and just needs to cool down but any advice?

It's an Advent Laptop by the way.

Re: My Laptop Wont Switch On

as for the battery, test it on another similar laptop. also test output of AC adapter. if you suspect overheating, let it cool down a bit (30mins to an hour) and power ON again. best if you use SpeedFan or similar to see your temps.

just to add, also try reseating your RAM. good if you have a working spare of RAM just for testing.
