RAM upgrade
hi. i have a hp pavilion dv2315nr of the dv2000 series laptop. its original ram was 1GB, 2 sticks of 512MB. the manual that came with the computer said that its memory is only upgradeable to 2GB; however, this afternoon, i bought a 2GB Transcend memory stick and installed it to my laptop. since it has two slots, i left the other 512MB memory stick on the other slot and put the new 2GB stick on the other. after i turned on my computer, i was surprised when i checked the specifications. it said that my laptop was running on 2500MB memory. is it really running on 2500MB memory or is the 2GB stick the only one that's running? after all, the manual said that its memory can only be expanded to 2GB.
i'll be waiting for your response.:) thank you so much :) |

Re: RAM upgrade
Manufactuers often like to play it safe, they give what is advisable based on supply rattings, it could very well be running full memory however it may incur problems further down the line.

Re: RAM upgrade
I advise you to take away the 512 MB RAM... if you want your laptop to work for another 2 years or so... if they said it was upgradable to only 2 GB stay at 2 GB... i work at Alienware i should know. having 2500 MB of RAM instead of 2000 MB wich was said that the system could take as a maximu will shorten the life of your laptop

Re: RAM upgrade
2500MB is 2.5GB, correct? so it is showing the correct installed RAM. is this the issue?
also when it says it is upgradeable to 2GB it may mean each slot has a maximum supported capacity of 1GB each. check crucial.com to see how big is supported per slot for your laptop.
