Microphone Trouble

First Off. My notebook is a Gateway MX6931.
I've got about 1gig of RAM and around 15gb of hard drive space left.

I'm having a problem with my microphone on my computer but not any other computers.

I have a simple CyberAcoustics headset that has a terrible humming noise that everyone on Skype and Paltalk complain about. I have also tried sound recording myself on the computer and I can in fact hear the hum. I can also clearly hear it over my speakers and even in headphones. I don't understand what exactly is making this humming sound.

If someone knows what makes this humming sound, please help me with a solution.

I had tried plugging into my brothers notebook that had vista installed on it (i dont know if that makes a difference), and there is no humming noise after doing a voice record on his laptop.

Please help with a solution! I'm able to do anything to fix this problem.

Thank you for any bit of help thats available.
-Matt
