Gateway system recovery

Got a virus on my laptop and when I try to do a system recovery, with the disc that it came with, it says it cannot recover c:\1386\SRV.SY_. Will not recover and I have to abort. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Gateway system recovery

Try doing a recovery off the hard drive if you can. When your computer starts up at the Gateway screen I believe, it will give options such as system recovery. I think it might be F11. If you can't do it that way then contact Gateway and see about getting another set of discs.

Tried that. When restore process gets to 35% is when it tells me "c:\1386\SRV.SY_ "cannot be restored.

Re: Gateway system recovery

You may have to call Gateway for discs

how many times have you tried the method? assuming you tried 3 times, does it always stop with the same error? if not, i suggest you check your RAM (use Memtest86+). you may have to test your harddrive. run diags on the harddrive depending on the brand (see HDD Diagnostic Tools link on my sig).
