cpu 100% usage

Hi,

My laptop has running started running at 100% CPU usage, even when it is not doing anything! It is a couple of years old now but still works pretty well.

Even when doing normal things like browsing, it will be very quiet, CPU running at about 10%, then all of a sudden it will jump to 100% and the fans will kick in really loud. The only way to stop this is to take out the mains lead and run it on the battery.

I have attached a copy of the specs, and also a copy of the task manager. Like I said it is not the best laptop in the world but is had served me well!

I have run Adaware, spybot recently, but it has not been long since I have done a complete restore. I might also add that the laptop does get very hot at times, having it on my lap is unbearable at some times as it is so hot on the bottom, on the right, where the fan intakes is.

I can understand it getting hot if I am doing something intensive, but even sending an email will spike the CPU and set the fans off.

Thanks for looking

Re: cpu 100% usage

if you feel it is overheating (regardless of CPU %), try using NHC or SpeedFan and see if the temp is rising fast on ordinary use (i.e. email).
