IBM x31 won't turn on

My IBM x31 laptop won't turn on.

Before this happened, I was having some problem with the ac power source, though I'm not sure if the problem was with the adapter itself-- a Targus ac power cord--or the socket on the computer. If I turned or moved the input plug (i.e., where the cord connects to the computer), the power source monitor would switch from ac to battery, with a corresponding beep. But the laptop still functioned.

Within two days I had put the unit asleep and when I got back to it, it didn't turn on. I assumed the battery had gone dead due to lack of ac power because of the sporadic connection. However, I tried to recharge it (and the battery indicator went from yellow to green) and it doesn't matter.

I tried to run the power through the ultra base (which would eliminate the computer's input socket as the source of the problem) but it did not help. The battery indicator is green but the unit does not turn on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: IBM x31 won't turn on

hi,

are you using the genuine AC adapter that came with the X31? the symptom that you get is similar to what i experienced before. i found out that my AC adapter has less in power (56W) output than the required (72W) even though voltage is the same as to what is required. check your user's guide and see what is the minimum power requirement of the laptop.
