I am trying to get my wireless router (netgear) to work with my cable modem. I have a toshiba satellite with Vista installed. I recently got comcast cable modem service with the motorola surfnet sb5120 and it works through the USB port, but will not work through the ethernet port. I have a Realtek RTL 8139/810x ethernet card installed. The router will also not work when the ethernet is plugged into the modem. Is there any way I can get this ethernet to work?

that line right there...says your computer is talking to the modem but the modem isn't giving your computer the right information it needs to get on the internet.

But, with the motorola modems, when ever you hook up a different device to the modem, or connect using a different wire (example ethernet and USB) you need to pull the power plug from the back of the modem for 30 seconds to reset it. Plug the ethernet cable into the modem and laptop, make sure to unplug the USB cable. Then plug the power to the modem back in and see if that works for ya.

You'll have to do the same thing when you hook up the router also. But for plugging everythign back in, connectedthe modem and router with the ethernet cable, then plug the modem in first, let the top four lights come on solid green, then plug the power to the router in.

Apparently it seems by your readout that you are running your cable modem in the static mode instead of DHCP. According to your readout the "DHCP enabled" setting is set to "No". Meaning you need to get an IP address from your IP provider and enter it in your router's settings.

I've seen this before when the local telecom will use a static IP setting to discourage subscribers from adding more computers thru a router thus limiting bandwidth hogging. If I were you I'd suggest calling your IP provider and either get that IP address or ask them to reconfigure your cable modem to DHCP, then Madcatz's suggestion will work ANYTIME you have internet connection issues.
