Battery Problem Acer Aspire 5601 AWLMi

Hello!
it just started two days ago. my system got hanged. keyboard and mouse stopped responding, even power button did not have any effect. finally i removed the battery to switch the system off. when i restarted after inserting the battery, it again stopped at the same place (i.e. just showing the wallpaper and hanged). i restored the system to factory defaults but all in vain. The system works perfectly fine after removing the battery. After few attempts i have reached to this conclusion that if i start the system with battery not fully charged (i.e. indicator orange)the system boots up and works normal. if i restart with battery indicator green the system hangs. Moreover with fully charged battery, the battery icon in system tray shows 4% charged, while the Acer Epower Management shows that i have 2 hours and 30 min in word processing mode. Battery is getting charged and the system works for around two hours in word processing scheme but the indicator does not go beyond 4%. i am in deep agony. please help.
Waiting for your kind reply.
Best Regards.
Usman

hi Usman,

do you have a working spare battery? try it first. as for your laptop, if it continues to hang when using the spare battery, run diags on your HDD and RAM.

Re: Battery Problem Acer Aspire 5601 AWLMi

Thanks TriggerFinger for a prompt reply. i had read another post in your forum regarding same problem. he suggested to 'Disable the battery ACPI driver'. after doing that the system is working. i think its a battery problem. Acer has given a battery recall, so i am planning to get the battery changed. i ll also try the another battery solution if i could find the same model. Thanks again.

oh yeah so it is good that you found that solution. this could be a temporary solution in your case since it was working before without this change. anyway it is good that it is working. just remember to change it back if you got your new battery just to test it. if it still does not work, then make the ACPI change again.
