Presario R3000 Motherboard

Hi folks,

I have a power up problem on the R3000 where after pressing the power button, the power light and fan comes on for 5-6 sec then the unit turns off. There is no display or beeps.

The same occurs using the battery alone, ac adapter with no battery or ac adapter with battery.

I suspect the motherboard or possibly the cpu.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Art

Re: Presario R3000 Motherboard

Hi Art,

check, reseat or replace all your RAM. using another set of RAM modules (known working sticks) would help narrow down possibilities.

Re: Presario R3000 Motherboard

I tried removing the 1 ram dimm then turned on the laptop with the same result the fan and light comes on for 6 sec then shuts off.

I wonder if it is the cpu or motherboard.

Thanks,
Art

Re: Presario R3000 Motherboard

did you remove the RAM (you mean no RAM installed)? if you did, then it behaved as expected (laptop powered up then shut down immediately). as in my previous post, use a known working RAM.
