CD/DVD drive on Toshiba Satellite M45 won't read discs

Hi,

The Cd Drive on myToshiba Satellite M45 S-169 won't read discs and won't show up in My Computer. Any suggestions? It will open and close and the light comes on like it's trying to read the disc. Thanks in advance!

try removing the upper and lower filters

I tried this, but apparently the upper and lower filters don't exist on my computer. Any other suggestions?

try a different brand of disks
check for a firmware update for the drive
in the device manager uninstall the drive and reboot and check it
try cleaning the laser
