Cry laptop boot up problem

Hi - I am not able to bootup the laptop and it seems to have stuck at the BIOS cycle. The message is:

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 082)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810X PCI Ethernet Controller v2.13

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM

The above message just keep repeating itself on the monitor. I have no idea what cable it is referring to as there to cable except the power cord

The machine is Toshiba
OS: XP home

Is this likely hardisk problem or OS problem or something else? Any advice is appreciated?

Re: laptop boot up problem

CSPRIG is right, you may have a dead HDD.

using an XP install CD boot from your CD drive, enter Recovery Console and run CHKDSK /R. if it cannot find your HDD to start the test, then you indeed have a dead drive.
