I have a HP pavillion dv5000 laptop.
When i turn it on I get the 'Windows did not restart properly screen'and no matter which of the options I choose, i see the windows logo loading after a short time the blue screen apears for a split second and then its back to the first screen all over again. iv gone into BIOS, i ran the HD self test, and both the short and long test fail before really even doing anything. I tried Ultimate boot CD on both a dvd and CD and neither do anything, i put the cd drive at the top of the boot order and still no luck CD works fine on my other PC though i dont have the original XP cd and im lost on what to do now? Iv been on here trying to figure it out for hours ![]() Any help would be appreciated! |

Re: Laptop wont boot?
hi,
so you mean you cannot boot from HDD and CD drive? as for your HDD if it failed in the self test, then it could be a goner. consider getting a new HDD. as for the CD drive, you can test it on another computer via an external enclosure or test it in a similar laptop. if it proves to be defective too, then getting a new one is logical. either way you will need a Windows installation CD to install your operating system. now if you do not have an XP cd to use, that is a problem that we cannot help you with.
