Alienware laptop

I just bought a used alienware laptop on ebay. Just turned it on today and it had a horizontal line through the top of the screen and the computer froze. After that I noticed that when I press the power button everything comes on except no display. I don't know if the lcd is shot or the motherboard, but I took a wiff inside and it smells like the motherboard is dead.

Me and the seller know that it got messed up during shipping cause he said it definately worked, and showed me pics, and then it worked for me until that horizontal line came on the screen after a few minutes.

He did charge me shipping insurance and he was wondering how that works.

If a product has shipping insurance for $1,000.00 will I get he and I get our $1,000 back?

I was just wondering incase I sell a computer on ebay and it happens to me. I sell a lot of computers/laptops and just need info on that incase it where to happen to me.

Re: Alienware laptop

nope, no damage at all to the package or laptop. Alienware customer service told me to change both graphics cards and try them both out individually, and they aren't fried. So I told them I smelled something fried in the front and back of the notebook and told them it was the motherboard, and after a while of them telling me to troubleshoot they came to the same conclusion. After I hung up and got the laptop back together it started working fine again, except it has 2 horizontal lines. I hooked it up to an external monitor and saw no lines at all so the lcd is bad.

The original owner is who I bought it from and he said the laptop is still under warranty so lucky for me Alienware should be replacing what ever is wrong and then I will finally have my laptop back.
