Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

hi,

if it is brand new, we strongly recommend you bring it back for repair under warranty.

crackling sound may mean anything from drivers to a defective speaker that may need replacement. so if you are under warranty then you are lucky.

ok great. bud, things have changed. i went out and got a brand new Gateway laptop, model # ML6732 and returned my acer aspire laptop, model # 5315-2326 back to walmart. im getting the same problem with my new gateway laptop that i mentioned above in this reply. im finding thorugh serching google that most people call it "right channel crackling sound" on this type of problem with the sound issue of "crackling speakers" when playing online games or listening to music or watching dvds. the thing is is that its actually both left and right channels, (both speakers), that have the crackling sound. it was actually like this for my acer aspire 5315-2326 too but i just didnt notice it though. called gatway techs. haha, those kool guys! they had me remove the sound driver and then reinstall microsofts high definition audio device driver. might be a conflict with a sharing irq? the old audio driver i had was a sigmatel. me a newbee!

hi mixy,

thanks for the update. i am also happy to know that you got it replaced and had the new one resolved.

anyhow i find it strange that you got two different brands sharing the same problem. this is kinda weird since these are brand new. i get this impression that they sold these with a known existing problem. so this really puzzles me unless of course you reinstalled the operating system (from Vista to XP) then that would at least clear that out. funny because common idea of a brand new system is that it should be working (NO PROBLEMS) right out of the box.

Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

hi triggerfinger! well i think i might try a complete system recovery. cyberpspace has it, has minutes left alone in the dark, ha ha. the thing is is that i like windows vista but downgrading to xp might be my only option.

this crackling sound might be able to be fix without a downgrade to windows xp on getting a new usb external sound card. ive been reading reviews and its most likely not a irq conflict. most laptops now a days simply do not have the irq issue of this but im still keep it in mind as a possible probable cause to the crackling sound. i will do my best to get this usb external sound card asap. see the cpu is giving out its bucks but my hardware is fighting for system resources thus enterrupting the sound.
mixy. oh and by the way im going to do a system recovery right now!!

hey mixy,

good luck on your system recovery.

an idea just popped in my head... have you tried a linux live CD before? what i am thinking is, that would help isolate if it is Windows or hardware. as i was toying around a live CD earlier, i was able to connect to the internet without reconfiguring anything. i was able to go to YouTube and i can see video and i got sound. so what am i saying here... is that may be you can try this path too.

Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

hey triggerfinger!
mixy here!
golly, cant bleieve i didnt get back to you in a week! linux live cd eh? ive heard of it. triggerfinger, i like online gaming, watching dvds, and playing music. crackling sound sitll is happening with my gateway ML6732.

this is kinda a fun issue to obscure, hehe. flying like a bird through forums. ok, tried disabling b/g wireless and system recovery too, however "crackling audio" is still on both speakers i will try linux live cd now and get back to you about it in my next post reply. well great working with you triggerfinger. i got your "triggerfinger" name implanted in my mind now. oh and also, i tried to uninstalling sigma tel high definition driver and my device then i reinstalled it back. i heard the only way to resolve the issue is just unfortunatley wait for sigma tel to release there new updated driver. "crackling sound" even comes through my usb logitech microphone headset. smo*ches!

Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

hey mixy,

welcome back...

yeah i have read about that problem too and that the solution is a new driver from Sigmatel but unless that happens we all have to live with it. if you want you can try uninstalling existing audio drivers and install the drivers from the URL below. start with the chipset driver then install the audio driver.

http://support.gateway.com/support/d...param=1015480R

anyhow if you will play around with a linux live CD and the crackling sound disappears then it could be the Windows drivers.

btw, when you plug in a headset, do you still hear the crackling sound when watching DVDs or the like?

lastly, attach in your post a screenshot of your ADD/REMOVE programs.

Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

triggerfinger! hi and thanks ;) well, the crackling audio is coming through to both speakers. i had a logitch headset and that was getting the crackling audio too and it was a usb. my new usb headset is the a4tech hd-880 and that is having the crackling audio issue as well. let me post a screen shot of my add remove programs. wow thanks. i know no solution might be found but at least i have a friend who trys for me! ;)) oh let try listening to a music cd and watching a movie dvd. ok crackling audio still eminate when listening to a music cd or watching a movie dvd. also when i play my online game. life is good! never let the little things like this get to ya. lol. crackling audio happens both ways on with the usb headset or when the usb headset is turned off in audio properties and with the laptop external speakers turned on. la la la.

Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

k, tried linux live cd. crackling audio still is apparent. wow! we've tried a few things now. most likely, the only way to fix this issue is to just wait for sigma tel to release its new updated driver :)) anyhow it is a common issue though too with some laptops; on and on not new drivers. well, i leave it up to us now. we can just wait for the new driver. kis*es. oh i also tried downgrading to windows xp and crackling audio occurs still.

Re: Right Channel Crackling Sound

hi mixy,

if crackling sound is present with linux live CD, then may be this has nothing to do with the drivers in Windows but more of a hardware issue.

the only thing i have in mind is the motherboard. i suggest that if this is still under warranty, that you let Gateway resolve this issue. this is still your best option so far if it is still under warranty.
