Laptop Screen Goes Darker

I have an Acer Apire 5672 laptop and recently the screen has been going funny. The screen is fine and works normally but when I dont move the mouse or touch any keys for five minutes the screen goes darker. At first it went darker by about 50% and then almost completely black but now it just goes darker by about about 50% after exactly 5 minutes. It started when the laptop battery got too low and it went into hibernation mode. I plugged it back in and has been doing it since then. I have tried changing power settings and changing screen saver settings but it doesnt make a difference. I tried having a screen saver instead but it does the same thing after 5 mins too on the screensaver. It seems like its been unplugged and has gone onto battery power but it is always plugged in - and seems like it slows down a bit (if watching video it plays slower). Does anyone know if there are some settings i could change or what the problem could be?

hi,

does this happen regardless on AC or battery?

check your Power Options, try the different settings.

Re: Laptop Screen Goes Darker

I haven't seen what happens when its not plugged in since it started happening. I have changed power and screen saver settings a few times but it didnt make much of a difference. But last night before I turned it off it was going darker every 13 minutes instead of 5 minutes.

Re: Laptop Screen Goes Darker

most laptops dim the screen when switched from AC to battery. check your BIOS settings if this parameter can be changed from there.

Re: Laptop Screen Goes Darker

Hi mate, just want to ask one thing: Do you have installed empowering technology on your laptop??? It is Acer's software than controls power flow so if you have play with that is might the problem...
But trigger's solution is more likely: Switching from AC to battery will change your dim screen... It happens all the time with my laptop... :)

Re: Laptop Screen Goes Darker

To enter into BIOS on Acer laptops press F2 [at least it is on couple of Acer laptops that I used it so far]...
It is showed in lower-leftside part of the display when you start your system...
