EI Systems 3085

This computer is doing my head in! Can anyone please help? I'm looking to totally re-format the hard drive but it didn't come with the disks and a very helpful 10 year old has deleted the instruction manual (along with god knows what) trying to make room for his games. Please Please Please someone help me before I loose my marbles completly.

Re: EI Systems 3085

hi,

can you still go into Windows? if so, do the following steps to create a backup / recovery media CD.
  1. Click Start > All Programs > System Recovery > Recovery Media Creator
  2. In the Welcome screen click Continue.
  3. In the next screen click Continue.
  4. Follow instructions on the screen.
  5. Click Start Creation to create your System Recovery CD Set.
  6. The recovery creation software will advise you how many blank CDs/DVDs you will need to create your System Recovery set. A DVD has a much higher capacity than a CD and will require less discs.
  7. You will then be asked to insert a blank disc into your computer. Label this CD 'Recovery CD 1' and then insert it into your DVD/CD drive.
  8. Do this until disc creation process has completed (may use several CD or DVD).

Re: EI Systems 3085

does it come with drivers? may be you should install needed drivers for the CD/DVD drive as it looks like it does not see the drive as a writer.

another reason is that the drive could be shot. have you tried an external drive? or have you tried copying or writing anything on that drive before?

Re: EI Systems 3085

It has been reading music cd's, now I realise that it isn't even doing that. The 'D' drive does not show up in 'My Computer'. All that came with it was the windows cd so I have no drivers. As it's not reading disks I can't install the new modem so am communicating through a desktop. I have also just realised that it does not have safe mode, both of the options when you hit F8 on startup just take you to windows. I'm going to kill this 10 year old.

Re: EI Systems 3085

try deleting upper and lower filters...

or you can use CDGONE utility (please Google for the download site) which will do the same thing as above.

Re: EI Systems 3085

i see two problems here... first is you want to reformat the system partition and the second one is an allegedly faulty dvd drive. for the drive, you can test this on another computer via a USB connected enclosure.

for the reformatting of the system partition, you can still do this without the drive. the process will delete your existing system including all your data and will reinstall the operating system and pre-loaded software. this will bring back default or factory settings. if you want to do this, try the steps here:

Laptop Recovery Instructions

Re: EI Systems 3085

ok then... glad to know you got your laptop working.

as for the dvd drive... have it tested first or try a similar drive in your laptop.

keep us posted if you still need help or you can mark this thread 'SOLVED'
